Nestled in the heart of De Pijp, just steps from the Albert Cuyp market, Koffiehuis 'De Markt' is your neighbourhood refuge from the Amsterdam bustle. Pull up a chair, breathe in fresh stroopwafel and roasted beans, and let the city settle around you.
Koffiehuis 'De Markt' was born from the belief that every Amsterdam neighbourhood deserves a place where time moves at its own pace. We opened our doors on the Albert Cuypstraat to honour the bruine kroeg warmth that has defined Dutch café culture for centuries. Here in De Pijp, between the market stalls and the canal bikes, we are your daily ritual, your quiet corner, your second living room.
Explore MoreWe source our beans from Amsterdam's finest specialty roasters and brew each cup to order behind our worn timber bar. Whether you take it as a koffie verkeerd or a pure espresso, every sip reflects the craft this city demands.
Each morning we bake our own appeltaart, boterkoek, and seasonal stroopwafels using traditional Dutch recipes and locally sourced butter. The smell alone draws half of De Pijp through our door before nine o'clock.
From noon onward we set out uitsmijter toasties, soups of the day, and a rotating board of Dutch cheeses and breads perfect for a long Amsterdam afternoon. Pair anything from the board with a pot of loose-leaf tea or a cold glass of homemade karnemelk lemonade.
Exposed brick, steamed-up windows, mismatched chairs, and the low hum of Amsterdam conversations — this is what gezelligheid looks and sounds like in De Pijp. Whether you arrive fresh from the market with a bag of blooms or shelter here from a Dutch autumn drizzle, the koffiehuis holds you exactly as you are.

"This is exactly the kind of Amsterdam café I thought only existed in old photographs — unhurried, warm, and completely genuine. I stop here every Saturday after the market and it never loses its charm."
"The appeltaart here is honestly the best I have had anywhere in Amsterdam, and I have looked hard. The coffee is serious without being pretentious, which is rare and wonderful."
"I visited De Pijp for a weekend from Antwerp and a local sent me straight here — best recommendation of the trip. Sat for two hours with a koffie verkeerd and felt completely at home in Amsterdam."
