Nestled in the heart of Centrum, Green Place is Amsterdam's quietly beloved café where canal-side calm meets the honest warmth of Dutch coffee culture. Step off the cobblestones of Kloveniersburgwal and into a space that feels like the city itself exhaled.
Green Place was born from a simple conviction: Amsterdam deserves a café that feels as layered and lived-in as its own grachten. We chose Centrum not despite its bustle but because of it — this is where the city's heartbeat is loudest, and where a quiet cup of coffee means the most. Every detail here, from the low lighting to the handpicked beans, is an ode to the bruine kroeg spirit that has defined Amsterdam café life for centuries.
Explore MoreWe source our beans through Amsterdam's own specialist roasters, rotating the origin seasonally to keep each cup honest and surprising. Brewed slowly and served without fuss, it is the kind of coffee that makes the Centrum morning feel worth it.
Our appelgebak is baked in-house each morning and served warm with a generous hand of slagroom — a non-negotiable by Amsterdam standards. Alongside it sit rotating Dutch pastries made with local dairy and seasonal fruit from the nearby Albert Cuyp suppliers.
For those stepping back from caffeine, our herbal blends draw on Dutch botanical traditions, paired with cold-pressed juices that carry the brightness of Amsterdam's weekend markets. Light, refreshing, and entirely at home beside the canal.
Green Place carries that particular Amsterdam quality of feeling both tucked away and central to everything — the kind of café you discover on a slow walk through Centrum and never quite stop thinking about. Mismatched chairs, trailing plants, and the low hum of the city filtering through old windows make it the ideal place to linger long after your cup is empty.

"This is exactly the kind of café Amsterdam needs more of — unhurried, warm, and completely unpretentious. I come here most Tuesday mornings before work and it genuinely sets the tone for the whole day in Centrum."
"The appelgebak alone is worth the detour through the old city streets. Green Place has become my go-to spot whenever I need to remember why living in Amsterdam is such a privilege."
"I visited from Utrecht for a weekend in Amsterdam and a friend insisted we stop here — I completely understood why after five minutes inside. Genuinely gezellig in a way that so many city cafés try and fail to be."
